Bloomingdale officers had responded to a local home on Sept. 19, when they discovered two safes, " which officers reasonably believed contained illegal firearms," the department said in a news release.

In the following days, the Detective Bureau conducted a follow-up investigation and executed two search warrants on the safes, owned by Omar Dudley, police said.

They uncovered several high-powered assault rifles, shotguns, handguns, illegal high-capacity magazines, and hollow-point ammunition, police said. One of the firearms was determined to be stolen from Virginia Beach, VA, authorities said.

As a result, Dudley was arrested and charged with a first-degree offense for being a convicted felon in possession of firearms, several counts of illegal possession of weapons, possession of high-capacity magazines, and possession of hollow point ammunition.

Records show Dudley was charged with terroristic threats in East Orange last year.

Last week, a 35-year-old Totowa man was arrested in a similar incident, as reported by Daily Voice.
